Would the Connecticut Republican Delegation Care to Comment?

"GOP Chairman Michael Steele spends $1,946.25 of RNC money at sex-themed Hollywood nightclub"

Not just any sex club but a bondage club that specializes in lesbian sex shows... That is where your hard earned dollars go to when you donate to Republicans. That or paying for limousines and gambling:
The news got worse, according to an adviser to Mr. Shays: The man Mr. Shays entrusted to run his political operation for nearly a decade had been quietly draining the account and had spent nearly $200,000 on Red Sox tickets, limousine travel, mysterious withdrawals at the Foxwoods casino and a donation of more than $1,000 to his synagogue.
I wonder if shoulda been a "3 strikes in jail" Chris Healy ever used donations to cover legal costs for his multiple DUI's? Would it shock you if he did? Just know that your money is safe with them. They will gladly tell you all about that.

  1. Steele was not there, but it's obvious he needs to go. Sarah Palin would be a great RNC chair!

  2. >>but it's obvious he needs to go

He's bringing in the cash and besides, we need him as we look ridiculous pounding on the podium ranting "We're the party of Lincoln dammit!" to an all white room.

    No surprise is there?

  4. Still no accountability the $17,000 on a private jet. I would seriously be worried about how they spend that money (especially given the examples) if I were donating to any of them.

No mention of the conservative Christian in that WSJ story, Charles? Nor any mention that they were recruiting Young Republicans?

  5. ACR - Ken Blackwell was also in the running for RNC chair. A real conservative, Star Parker endorsed him. Too bad he didn't get it. The cash would be coming in regardless, he's spending it hand over fist. His assistant makes $180K, and he once proposed the RNC buy a private jet for his travels. And there is this.

    >>Still, the nature and size of Steele’s expenses are likely to reignite persistent complaints from high-end donors and key party figures that the RNC is bleeding cash in the months before a pivotal midterm election. Several months into Steele’s term as chairman, his spending spurred Republican committeemen to pass a resolution requiring checks to be signed by at least two RNC officers, and contracts over $100,000 to go out to competitive bidding.

Complaints, almost always expressed off the record, have been bitter. “This is not somebody who is out recruiting candidates,” said an aide who worked closely with STEELE. “He is not meeting with donors. He’s not asking for money. The guy is writing his book or doing his speaking gigs, or whatever the hell else he fills his days with. Those are his priorities.”

A March 20 FEC filing shows the RNC has $9.5 million cash on hand. STEELE began his tenure with $22.8 million, and has since raised $96.2 million. During the same period, however, the RNC has spent $109.6 million, for a deficit of $13.4 million. That spending included aid to the campaigns that elected Gov. Bob McDonnell in Virginia and Gov. Chris Christie in New Jersey.

“The story is less what’s left, and more what’s been spent,” said one longtime Republican operative. “It’s difficult to draw distinctions between various elections because the circumstances are so different. But what is worthy of scrutiny is the March cash on hand versus where it was January or February last year, which is essentially the same picture. And that comes despite having raised more than $90 million dollars.”

CM1 - Wonkette may be amusing, but I wouldn't trust them as a hard news source. The WSJ piece had this.

    >>The expense was incurred after an RNC event for young Republican donors in Los Angeles, according to a memo issued Monday by Ken McKay, the committee's chief of staff. After the event, several Republicans went to the club on their own, Mr. McKay wrote.

The $1,946 tab they ran up was covered by GOP donor Erik Brown and later submitted by him to the RNC for reimbursement. On Monday, after news of the event became public, the RNC said Mr. Brown had agreed to repay RNC. Mr. McKay also said the committee fired a staffer who was at the bar and had told Mr. Brown he could obtain reimbursement for the tab.

Mr. Brown didn't return calls or emails seeking comment.

"This was not an RNC sanctioned event and was not associated in any way with any RNC official event," Mr. McKay said in his memo, which was addressed to committee members.

He didn't name the employee who had been fired, but wrote that the person "was aware that this activity was not eligible for reimbursement and had been previously counseled on this very subject."

  6. I don't really take Wonkette seriously. I just got a laugh seeing the conservative Christian, Erik Brown, doing his best to ogle the lady with his peripheral vision as he stares at a fixed point 6 inches in front of her bust throughout the radio interview. This whole story is funny from top to bottom, so to speak.

  9. Stormy Daniels: I am a Republican

Former adult entertainment star Stormy Daniels released the following statement Tuesday, declaring her affiliation with the Republican Party. This statement is believed to be setting up Daniels' bid for U.S. Senate, running against Senator David Vitter

    >>"As someone who has worked extensively in both the club and film side of the Adult Entertainment Industry, I know from experience that a mere $1900 outlay at a club with the reputation of Voyeur is a clear indication of a frugal investment with a keen eye toward maximum return.

"And I firmly believe that it is precisely this type of creative and calculated investing that we, as taxpaying Americans, should expect not only from our political parties but from our government. The American taxpayer deserves consistent conservatives who reject wasteful spending and unwarranted government intervention in the private sector.

  10. This little side show has gotten way too much press. Some jerk used his credit card without approval, and suddenly all Republicans are painted as perverts. The same occurred the week after health care passed, all the taunts and namecalling were played up to paint all Republicans (or tea partiers) as racist.

The media will do anyting to smear conservatives, and this is more of the same. The problem for both Dems and the media is that people don't trust the mainstream press any longer.

  11. It's a little bit more than that, Vincent. A staffer at the RNC agreed to reimburse the guy who used his credit card.
